Fungal Culture

The Fungal Culture test at Pamel Laboratories is a specialized laboratory procedure used to detect, isolate, and identify fungal organisms from clinical specimens such as skin, nails, sputum, urine, blood, or body fluids. It helps diagnose superficial, subcutaneous, and systemic fungal infections, including dermatophytosis, candidiasis, aspergillosis, and more.

This test is especially important for individuals with persistent infections, unexplained symptoms, or those who are immunocompromised.

What the Test Includes:

• Inoculation of the sample on selective fungal media

• Incubation over several days to weeks depending on the organism

• Microscopic and macroscopic identification of fungal species

• Identification of organisms such as Candida, Aspergillus, Trichophyton, Microsporum, and Histoplasma

Purpose of the Test:

• Diagnose fungal skin, nail, or scalp infections

• Detect systemic fungal infections in at-risk patients

• Identify cause of persistent respiratory, urinary, or skin conditions

• Guide targeted antifungal therapy

• Support diagnosis of opportunistic infections in HIV/AIDS, cancer, or transplant patients

• Preliminary report: 3–5 days

• Final report: Up to 3 weeks depending on fungal growth
