Original price was: ₦6,000.00.Current price is: ₦5,000.00.

The Acid Phosphatase (ACP) Test at Pamel Laboratories measures the level of acid phosphatase, an enzyme found in various tissues, including the prostate, liver, spleen, and red blood cells. A key component of this test is the prostatic acid phosphatase (PAP), which is used to help detect and monitor prostate cancer and prostatic disease.

This test can also assist in diagnosing certain bone diseases and blood disorders, depending on the total acid phosphatase levels.

What the Test Measures:

  • Total acid phosphatase in the blood

  • Prostatic acid phosphatase (PAP), when specified

  • Helps detect enzyme elevation due to tissue damage or malignancy

Purpose of the Test:

  • Detect and monitor:

    • Prostate cancer, especially metastatic cases

    • Benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH)

    • Gaucher’s disease or multiple myeloma

    • Bone metastases from prostate cancer

    • Red blood cell destruction (hemolysis)

  • Evaluate symptoms like:

    • Lower back pain in men (possibly due to prostate metastasis)

    • Urinary difficulties

    • Bone pain or swelling

Sample Type: Blood sample (serum)
Fasting Required: No
Turnaround Time: 1–2 working days

Important Notes:

  • Prostatic acid phosphatase (PAP) is less commonly used today but still relevant for specific prostate evaluations

  • Total ACP levels may be elevated in bone and liver conditions, not just prostate issues

  • For comprehensive prostate screening, PSA testing is often done alongside
