Eosinophil Count

The Eosinophil Count test at Pamel Laboratories measures the number of eosinophils, a type of white blood cell involved in allergic reactions, parasitic infections, and certain immune responses. Eosinophils play a key role in defending the body, but abnormal levels can indicate health conditions ranging from asthma to parasitic diseases and autoimmune disorders.

This test is often part of a Complete Blood Count with Differential, but it can also be ordered individually when investigating specific symptoms like persistent cough, skin rashes, or unexplained inflammation.

Purpose of the Test:

• Detect and monitor allergic reactions (e.g., asthma, hay fever, eczema)

• Diagnose parasitic infections

• Support evaluation of autoimmune diseases

• Monitor certain cancers, like Hodgkin’s lymphoma

• Help assess chronic inflammatory conditions

Normal Range:

• Absolute Eosinophil Count: 0 – 500 cells/μL

• Relative Count: 1% – 6% of total white blood cells
