Prothrombin Time (PT) Test

Original price was: ₦4,000.00.Current price is: ₦3,750.00.

The Prothrombin Time (PT) test at Pamel Laboratories measures how long it takes for your blood to clot. It helps assess the health of your blood’s clotting ability and is commonly used to evaluate bleeding disorders, monitor anticoagulant therapy (like warfarin), and assess liver function, since many clotting factors are produced in the liver.

A prolonged PT may indicate a deficiency of clotting factors, liver disease, or the presence of anticoagulant medications, while a shortened PT may suggest an increased risk of blood clots.

Purpose of the Test:

  • Monitor patients on blood-thinning medications (e.g., warfarin)

  • Diagnose bleeding disorders or unexplained bruising

  • Assess liver function and production of clotting factors

  • Pre-surgical evaluation of bleeding risk

  • Investigate symptoms like nosebleeds, heavy menstruation, or prolonged bleeding

Also Reported:

  • INR (International Normalized Ratio): A standardized version of PT used globally, especially for patients on anticoagulants

Normal Range:

  • PT: 11 – 13.5 seconds

  • INR: 0.8 – 1.1 (for healthy individuals)
(Target INR may vary depending on medical condition)

Sample Type: Venous blood (collected into a sodium citrate tube)

Turnaround Time: Same day (usually within a few hours)

Test Method: Coagulometer (automated clot detection system)
